Tuckshop Menu:
Due to Staff Illness there will be no Tuckshop this week. Apologies to all of our St Joseph's community. Here is our week 2 special. If you ordered on our app you should have received a notification that your order has been cancelled.
Week 2 | Aussie Dog with Chocolate Cake & a popper |
We have also transitioned to an online platform. There you will find all prices and menu options. Set up an account, deposit money and place the order it is that simple. There is a fee for every order placed, though this is a minimal charge. This fee doesn't come to St Joseph's as it is a processing charge from My School Connect.
Please know that an extensive search occured to find the cheapest and more efficient company to use and we are excited to have found My School Connect.
We are excited to bring this to St Joseph's. It also houses the uniform shop and various other tabs to help us with all school events. Please be patient with us while we navigate through this transition.
Uniform Shop
Open Days:

- Wednesday: 8:10am-8:30am

My School Connect - Tuckshop
In Term 2 we also have some very exciting news as we will be implementing a new online way to order and pay for tuckshop which will be through the My School Connect application. You can choose to pay as you order each week, deposit funds into the online account to last the duration of the term / year, or even order tuckshop weeks in advance. This will minimise the traffic in the office for topping up tuckshop accounts, assist parents working away who would like to order tuckshop for their child, and significantly reduce the workload of manually processing transactions and updating accounts. We also hope to move the uniform shop to this platform as well. If you currently have money on your tuckshop account please pop into the office in the coming weeks to receive a refund.
NAIDOC March:
This Friday the 15th of July the staff and students at St Joseph’s will be gathering with the Cloncurry State School for the annual NAIDOC March. We will be beginning our march at 9am, meaning there will be no assembly on Friday morning. We are hoping to depart St Joseph's at 8.45am so please ensure students are ontime. Students will need to bring a hat and water bottle with them for the day. We will be finishing the march with at the State School with a sausage sizzle.
NAIDOC Liturgy:
This Thursday morning we will join together in the Mary MacKillop Shed for our 2022 NAIDOC Liturgy. I would like to invite all community members, parents, family members and friends to join us for this liturgy at 8.30am. There will be cake to follow.
Staffing Update:
Mrs Deborah McCann departed our school at the end of 2020 to move back to the UK with her family. I am very excited to let you know Mrs McCann will be joining us for Semester 2 in Year 3. Please welcome Mrs McCann back to our wonderful community throughout the week.
We are also awaiting the arrival of Mr Tartelin to teach The Arts and Mrs Cullen to teach year 5. We will update you later in the term once they have arrived.
Miss Borlase will also be joining our teaching team in Term 4. You will see Miss Borlase next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as she will be coming to visit the school and prepare for her term 4 position. Miss Borlase is a primary school teacher and will go into one of our primary classrooms to teach in 2023.
UMY Camp:
Our year 7 to 9 students won't be at school throughout the week as they have departed for Camp. The students departed last Friday and have been incredibly busy the whole time. They spent the first few days on Stradbroke Island, but traveled back to Brisbane on Sunday afternoon for The Broncos vs Dragons NRL game. Yesterday the students went to the QLD Museum, the Spark Lab, the Brisbane River Cruise, walked around the Gallery of Modern Art, and finished the day off with a ride on The Brisbane Eye. Today their day is just as jam packed with a visit to Parliament House, The Brisbane Botanic Gardens, QUT Science and Engineering Centre, Brisbane Museum and tonight Bowling. I am sure there will be some sore feet by the end of camp!
Parents are being updated daily via text message, however, some happy snaps have been uploaded to our facebook page as well.
Enjoy your week ahead.
God Bless,
Samantha Kelley

APRE News
Welcome back to Term 3!
What a chilly start, I can appreciate the effort it took for our students to get out of bed this week. However, we should enjoy this cold snap as it will be summer before we know it.
I hope that the holidays gave everyone a chance to relax and refresh. I was certainly happy not to pack a lunch box for two weeks. I visited all the classes yesterday, it was lovely to see smiling face, who were happy to be back with their friends and sharing stories.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK IN QUEENSLAND 25th - 31st July (Week 3)
Catholic Education Week is an annual state-wide event that promotes the distinctive mission of Catholic schools throughout Queensland.
The week 25th - 31st July is celebrated by all schools through a range of liturgies, events and activities.
The Catholic Education Week 2022 theme is " Communities of Faith, Hope and Love". This was also our theme for our Beginning of Year Mass.
A Mass to mark the official launch of Queensland Catholic Education Week 2022 will be held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Townsville on 25th July 2022 and in the Archdiocese of Brisbane on Tuesday 26 July 2022, both are live-streamed and links available on social media pages.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
We invite all members of our school and parish community to our school's Catholic Education Week liturgy on Friday 29th of July at 8:30am to celebrate together this significant event as a Community of Faith, Hope and Love.
Notices:
- Children’s Mass Sunday 24th July at 8:30 am: An email will be sent out early next week seeking children who are able to participate in the mass. All families are welcome!
Kind Regards,
Therese Curley

Pastoral Care
Zones of Regulation
The Zones of Regulation framework used in our classrooms at St. Joseph’s teaches students scaffolded skills toward developing a metacognitive pathway to build awareness of their feelings/internal state and utilise a variety of tools and strategies for regulation, prosocial skills, self-care, and overall wellness. This includes exploring tools and strategies for mindfulness, sensory integration, movement, thinking strategies, wellness, and healthy connection with others.
The Four Zones: Our Feelings and States Determine our Zone
The Red Zone is used to describe extremely heightened states of alertness and intense emotions. A person may be elated or experiencing anger, rage, devastation or terror when in the Red Zone.
The Yellow Zone is also used to describe a heightened state of alertness and elevated emotions, however one has more control when they are in the Yellow Zone. A person may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, the wiggles, or nervousness when in the Yellow Zone.
The Green Zone is used to describe a calm state of alertness. A person may be described as happy, focused, content, or ready to learn when in the Green Zone. This is the zone where optimal learning occurs.
The Blue Zone is used to describe low states of alertness and down feelings such as when one feels sad, tired, sick, or bored.
Regards,
Mrs Toni Schneekloth
Pastoral Leader
Prep
I hope that you have had a restful school holidays. What a busy term we have ahead of us!
We will spend this week revising literacy learning and move back into learning new sounds and words next week. There will be no literacy groups this week. They will begin again next week and parent/carer helpers will be appreciated.
There are a few changes to our normal weekly schedule this week. PE will be moved to Wednesday afternoon due to timetable changes because of staff who are on camp with the older students. Queensland Ballet will be visiting on Wednesday morning and Prep will be participating in a workshop with them. Assembly will be a NAIDOC liturgy this week which you are welcome to attend and this will be on Thursday as there is a NAIDOC march with the State School on Friday morning.
When counting our 100 days in Prep last term I counted the Easter holidays as school days, so my calculations are not correct. Our 100 days of Prep will be on Thursday in Week 3 (28th of July). We will celebrate this at assembly on Friday the 29th of July, which is also the day that Prep performs a song at assembly to celebrate Catholic Education Week. Sorry for the confusion!! It does give you an extra two weeks to organise your child's "dress like they are 100" costume.
In maths we will be revising and expanding on number knowledge for the next few weeks. During science the Prep class will continue to explore the properties of materials. In HASS we will continue to explore mapping and the features of places. In religion prayer will be our focus. For the arts Prep will continue music and also begin to explore the elements of dance. We also hope to prepare our potato patch this week in preparation for planting the potatoes which were left over from our potato people creations..
Reminders:
- SPORT HAS CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK
- Library and assembly.
- Friday - NAIDOC march (it can be very cold under the sports shed at the State School which is where the march finishes and we assemble. Please send your child dressed appropriately for the weather on the day).
Yours in fun and learning,
Mrs Sharon McLauchlan and Miss Tamara Williams

Year 3
Welcome to Term 3. This week we will spend some time getting to know each other and getting used to the rules of our classroom. I will be completing a few short assessments with the children so I can get to know where we need to focus our learning.
Our Science focus will be living and non living things. I have asked the children to have a look in their gardens to see what they can discover.
In English we will be focusing on Informative Text - we have started to fill the classroom with lots of interesting books to read over the coming weeks. I am a great encourager of reading and therefore reading will always be our go to activity when we have completed our work.
We have a busy week with NAIDOC activities and will be spending some time over at The State School on Friday as part of the celebrations.
I look forward to meeting all our year 3 families but please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns.
Have a great first week.
Mrs Deb McCann

Welcome back to Term 3!
HaSS- This is always my favourite term as the weather is great for getting out and discovering Cloncurry’s great landscape and seeing first hand the geological features we are investigating in HaSS. The units we are completing in each subject area are engaging and I am really focussing on the students’ abilities to use their research skills and draw conclusions from observations and information.
This week the students are asked to bring in a soil sample for observation. They have brought home a plastic bag with instructions. The soil is to be put inside the plastic bag and sealed.
Maths- We start the term off with measurement. We will be identifying attributes that can be measured and practise using the correct unit of measure for each attribute. Accuracy in measuring will be a big focus.
Science- Our focus for the term is ‘Sustainability’. We will be learning about how we impact our environment through the choices we make. We won’t only be looking at the negative impacts but will spend time investigating what people are doing around the world to reverse the negative impact the human race has had.
This week the school is celebrating NAIDOC week. Students will be involved in NAIDOC activities throughout the week ending in the march on Friday morning.
Library: Wednesday
PE: Thursday
Have a great week!

Welcome to Term 3,
We have got busy learning and are having fun, as we delve into new topics!
Maths: We are exploring fractions and decimals at the beginning of the term. This week, we are comparing and ordering common unit fractions and locating and representing them on a number line, and converting between mixed numerals and improper fractions.
English: We are learning about the Elements of Poetry this term. This week, we will be completing engaging activities to understand figurative language, including similes, metaphors, and hyperboles.
HaSS: We are learning about the interconnections between people and the environment this term. We enjoyed using Google Time Lapse to identify characteristics of Cloncurry and the changes that have occurred over time. We identified various mines that have been opened and explored the economic, environmental and social pros and cons.
NAIDOC Week: Students have enjoyed participating in NAIDOC Week activities, including boomerang painting and turtle weaving.
Reminders:
- Homework: Homework is handed out on Monday and is to be returned on Friday.
- Tuckshop: No tuckshop this week
Enjoy your week,
Miss Therese von Drehnen
Year 6
Welcome back for Semester 2!
We have no time to waste between catching up on content that was not completed in Term 2 and the new Term 3 learning!!
This term’s learning focuses are:
Religion: We will be learning about the key elements of Jewish High Holy Days before making connections between these practices and the lives of believers. We will eventually lead into the Christian celebration of the Eucharist.
English: Students will begin the term by writing their persuasive pitch for their mini business (linked with HaSS). We will then be focusing on informative writing for the remainder of the term.
Mathematics: To begin the term, we will be finishing up some work from Term 2: transformations and data displays. The students will then explore operations with decimals which will lead into and connect with the metric system, including volume and capacity.
HaSS: After the students complete the learning and project for Business & Economics, we will be switching our attention to history by learning about the federation of Australia.
PE and Library have remained as is, on Wednesday.
I look forward to wonderful Semester 2!
Mr. James Delaney and the Year 6 Legends!
UMY School Camp
Mr Murray, Miss Lovett, Mr Kelley and Mrs Dodd departed Cloncurry last Friday with our year 7 to 9 students for a very busy and jam packed school camp! The students started their school camp by catching a ferry to join Yura Tours on Stradbroke Island. They spent the weekend days on the island where they went sandboarding and engaged in cultural experience of Dance and Song. Yura Tours congratulated our students on how well they behaved and represented our school in their time with them.
The students then ventured back to Brisbane to attend the Broncos vs Dragons game on Sunday night at Suncorp Stadium. Weren’t their seats amazing?
We will have some very sore feet when students return from camp as they have spent yesterday and today exploring the city and all of its wonderful sites!
NAIDOC Week Activities
This week we have had a couple of our year 7 to 9 students that didn't attend camp come and assist with NAIDOC Week activities. A big thank you to Kaylii, Phillip and Charles for dedicating their time and working so well to help our primary students.
This week students have participated in Dot Painting Boomerangs, Yarning Turtles, and 'Move it Mob Style'.
On Thursday morning we will have our NAIDOC Liturgy at 8:30am in the MMS and on Friday participate in the towns NAIDOC march through town. We love joining the community and The Cloncurry State school for this celebration.
St Joseph's Catholic School Get Up, Stand Up and Show Up together.
Mulkadee Week
IT IS HERE! How exciting.
We have 9 very talented students travelling to Townsville next Monday morning with Miss Leonie Ansell to perform in Mulkadee.
Mulkadee showcases the increidble talent in our Diocese. The only schools that participate in this event are from our Diocese.
We will be wishing Kayden, Kimberlee, Ruby, Nika, Breanna, Catie, Chloe, Latarnia and Will all the best as they travel to perform.
Student Wellbeing
Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.
Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendship are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to support their young person’s friendship so that they experience a sense of belonging.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Spark Club
Wellbeing is something I value and do hope you do also as parents of some really cool kids. I came across this yesterday while on our staff website and these are some wellbeing points they had to share.
1. Nourish yourself with real, whole colourful food.
2. Move Your Body Anyway feels good for you.
3. Step Outside And Get Some fresh air. Fresh Air, fresh perspective!
4. Sufficient sleep. Getting between 7-9 hours is key to functioning well.
5. Stay Hydrated. Drink 8 Glasses of water each day.
6. Create Your Own Calm (through meditation or breathing)
7. Connect with someone you love.
8. Manage Technology. To really unplug give yourself some technology free time throughout the day.
9. Be Kind. Reach out to help or support another.
10. Self-Care. Tune in and help support yourself by doing something you enjoy.
Even if you gifted yourself most of the points, you are better off than neglecting yourself. There is truth to the "filling your own cup before others" quote.
My role as the School Chaplain is to support all of our community here at St Joseph's. Staff, students, families and extended members of our group are all important in my eyes, I value all of you and what you contribute to our school. I welcome you to come and visit, volunteer, write to spark mail, email or say g'day. You might even want to come and have a cuppa at the Chaplaincy Breakfast Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the Mary MacKillop Shed.
I do hope you visit and your holidays were great with your kids, I love the time with mine!
We are so blessed,
Miss Pete McIntyre
