Each topic or edition addresses key issues using brief interviews with expert specialists, fact sheets, parent quizzes, recommended apps, books, and much more.

Swimming Carnival
Firstly I wanted to thank our staff, students and parents for being so understanding and helpful last Friday in the cancellation of our swimming carnival. It was so disappointing that the fun filled day wasn’t able to go ahead. I also wanted to mention Mr Scott Murray who put a considerable amount of time into preparing for the day and to our P&F Association and volunteers that spent a lot of time preparing slices, coffee and lunch packs for us to enjoy on the day. There were a number of parents that had a very late night the night before the swimming carnival to make this possible and we are so grateful for you.
The swimming carnival has been rescheduled to Monday the 15th of November. Communication will come about this over the coming week. Unfortunately, due to the time that it took to prepare the lunch packs for our students last week there won’t be tuckshop available for students on the day. All students will be required to pack their lunch for the day.
Board Information Evening
Monday afternoon at 5pm we welcomed Stephanie Giorcelli our Education Consultant from TCEO to present on the Formation of a Board. It was a fantastic and informative presentation. Thank you to the parents, staff and Fr Mick who joined us for this occasion. There are expression of interest forms in the front office if you would like to join our board in 2022. In filling these forms out please also identify what you believe you will bring to the board.
If you would like further information please contact me as soon as possible.
Volunteers & Sponsors Gratitude Evening
It has been a BIG year at St Joseph’s Catholic School and we would like to show our appreciation to our Volunteer and Sponsors at a Gratitude Evening on Friday the 12th of November from 5 to 7pm in the Mary MacKillop Shed. Please RSVP via email to skelley2@sjctsv.catholic.edu.au by Wednesday the 10th of November.

APRE News
Yesterday we gathered in our St Colman’s Church to celebrate the feast of All Saints. We remembered the many good men and women who followed Jesus’ way by living lives of servanthood. They cared for those in need and put others first before themselves. They lived the true message of the Gospel. Inspired by the way they lived their lives, we prayed that we too, would look to the needs of others first.
We heard readings from the Gospel according to Matthew and the first letter of St John. We also said the Litany of the Saints as well as sung songs.
Today is All Souls Feast Day, our parish community will gather this morning for a mass at 7:30 am with Fr Mick as the presider. We remembered all who are part of the Church – those who have died and are with God and those of us still here on earth. We especially remembered our loved ones who have died, and we asked God to give us comfort and peace.
We have a wonderful chaplaincy breakfast this morning after the All Souls Mass in the St Coleman’s Church. This morning we served pancakes, Canadian maple syrup and bacon. I’d like to thank the Ujimoto family for donating some authentic Canadian Maple Syrup, having it with pancakes and bacon was a real hit with those who attended the breakfast.
Gospel Reading Matthew 5:1-12
Jesus teaches what it means to be happy.
One of the great gifts of our Catholic tradition is remembrance of and prayer with the saints. The Church offers us an official canon, or list, of saints. On All Saints Day, we recall and pray with these saints. It is important to continue to tell these stories of saints and saintly people to our children so that they have ample models of people of faith for their own lives.
Together as a family, name and tell the story of favorite saints. Together prepare a list of some of the traits that these people have in common (generosity, courage, prayerfulness, and so on) After preparing this list, read together today's Gospel, Matthew 5:1-12. Identify how the attitudes described in the Beatitudes are reflected in the lives of the saints and people you named.
Pray together as a family a Litany of the Saints. (For example, the leader prays, “St. Elizabeth,” and the children are invited to reply, “Pray for us.”) Include in your list the saints and holy people you named in your discussion. Conclude by praying that your family will follow the example of these people as disciples of Jesus.

Year 4
Hi Everyone
This week is a really busy one with a performance at the Shire Hall and lots of learning happening in our classroom. We welcomed back Reese Logan which has sent a buzz through the class!
Writing Workshop- Yesterday we had an author, Vicki Bennett, visit us to lead us in a writing workshop where the students brainstormed what they love about Cloncurry, then wrote postcards which will be shown to other classes around Queensland.
The students were very motivated by this and had lots of stories to tell Vicki about where they live and their experiences.
We also got to look at a few of her 30 published books and we purchased some for the library. The Year 4 students are very keen to read these books which are all based on true events.
English- This week we are completing our assessment task where the students have to choose a character from the novel we have been studying, The Impossible Quest, and tell how the author has developed the character through their traits, dialogue, relationships, actions and thoughts.
Enjoy your week,
Mrs Wall

School Oval Update
As you are aware, St Joseph's have been working hard this year to renovate our oval at the end of the year. The turf is being layed on the 10th December!! This means that the Oval will be closed from Friday 12th November, so we can complete the prep work necessary in this time.
School Improvements
Our new eating tables for the Primary area have arrived, aren't they amazing?
Chaplaincy Breakfast - Term 4
In Term 4 St Joseph's Catholic School will be introducing a Chaplaincy Breakfast program each Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30am - 8:00am.
All staff, students, parents, carers and family members are welcome to join us!
Our aim is to ensure students are provided with the best opportunity to make the most of their education and develop healthy eating habits. We also aim to bring our community together through this breakfast program. Research suggests that eating breakfast in the morning sets our students up for a day of learning by maximising their behavioural outcomes in the classroom, while assisting them in engaging with learning tasks in the classroom.
We would love if you help us spread the word!
Spare Pallets and Wheels !
Mr Brown, a new teacher to our UMY space has joined us for Term 4 and would like to make Billy Carts with the students. He needs pallets that can be taken apart and wheels. Old pram wheels would be suitable.
Drop off outside the Workshop or phone the office for directions.
Casual Employment Opportunties
We are seeking casual School Officers and qualified Teachers to cover sick and leave days.
