Principal News
Welcome to Week 3,
I had a great week last week engaging with other Principals in the Townsville Diocese as we joined together in three days of Professional Development. It is challenging being away from St Joseph’s, but it is a great time to reflect on all of the amazing things we are doing and plan forward for 2022. I flew back into Cloncurry on Friday evening and travelled to Mount Isa for the Rock Pop Performances. I am sure you will agree with me in saying that the students of St Joseph’s Catholic School were amazing, they represented St Joseph’s with such pride. A big thank you to the teachers that made this possible - Miss Ansell, Miss Brock, Miss Campbell and Miss Lovett, and to the parents that helped with costumes, collected students from rehearsals and drove to Mount Isa last Friday to help cheer St Joseph's on from the crowd. The trophies for our Junior Secondary group are showcased in the front office if you would like to pop in and have a look.
Staff Departures 2021:
It is with a heavy heart that the St Joseph’s community farewell Mr Shadley Davids at the end of the 2021 school year. Mr Davids has been at St Joseph’s for three and a half years now and has made a significant contribution to the St Joseph’s Community. Mr Davids will be very sadly missed as a member of our leadership team, active member in the St Colman's Parish and The Cloncurry Community.
It is with pleasure that I share that Mr Davids has accepted a position as Assistant Principal of Religious Education at St Catherine’s Catholic College in Proserpine, which is a Secondary School in our Diocese.
Please join with me in congratulating Mr Davids on this incredible achievement and by thanking him for his contribution to St Joseph’s.
St Joseph’s Catholic School Board
As many of you are aware St Joseph’s Catholic School went through a Renewal Process throughout 2021 where we reflected on the past 5 years and spent a considerable amount of time forward planning for the next 5 years. In this process of review the establishment of a School Board at St Joseph’s was a recommendation and a goal moving forward.
The establishment and existence of a school board creates a sense of continuity in the life of a School, irrespective of leadership, staff and community changes. Regular board meetings also provide the opportunity for myself, as the Principal, to seek advice from the board on matters of school policy and on ‘big picture’ issues affecting the school now and in the future.
A Catholic School Board usually consists of eight to ten people, some of whom are parents/carers. Having a Catholic School Board does not detract from the role of the importance of a school’s Parents and Friends Association. The P&F remain as the official representative body for parents in their dealings with the school, the diocese, government and other bodies.
Catholic School Boards are advisory groups. They act in a manner which is at home with the Catholic belief that the Holy Spirit lives in the Christian community and that all members have wisdom to contribute. There is a strong spiritual dimension to a Catholic School Board's work.
All members of the St Joseph’s Catholic School Community, as well as members from our wider community are invited to a Board Information Evening on Monday of Week 5 being the 1st of November 2021 at 5pm. Stephanie Giorcelli, our Education Consultant from The Townsville Catholic Education Office will be joining us for the Board Information Evening.
Catholic Mission Mass:
St Joseph's will be hosting the Catholic Mission Mass on Friday with St Keirans, St Joseph's Mount Isa and Good Shepherd Catholic College joining us. Students from Years 5 to 9 will be attending and are asked to wear full school uniforms. Our 5 to 9 students will also join the other schools for a BBQ on the day.
2022 Enrolments
Help us spread the word! We have had a number of enquiries this week about enrolments for 2022. Please note that enrolments are still open and we welcome new and returning families to join us. To find out more information about enrolments please pop into the front office, phone or email the school on (07) 4742 1633 or clncry@tsv.catholic.edu.au
APRE News
Catholic Mission Month
October is Catholic Mission Month. This year Catholic Mission’s focus country is Thailand, especially supporting the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Thailand. Yesterday we had a whole school student liturgy in the church to pray for the work of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, we heard readings from the Acts of the Apostles and from the Gospel according to Luke. On Friday we will be hosting our Mount Isa Catholic Schools to celebrate Catholic Mission Month by having a combined mass. I will be sharing photos of the mass in next week’s newsletter as well as on our Facebook page.
Chaplaincy Breakfast Club
Every Tuesday and Thursday we have our Chaplaincy Breakfast Club which is an opportunity to bring our community together through this breakfast program. Our schools breakfast program will:
- Maximise behavioural outcomes in the classroom;
- Enhance student engagement and school connectedness;
- Positively impact student academic outcomes.
This morning we served pancakes for breakfast and we will be having something different next week as well.
I will be in Townsville for a Chaplain’s Cluster meeting this Thursday, however the breakfast club will still run with the help of Mr Murray and our other teacher helpers.
Gospel Reading Mark 10:46-52
Jesus restores sight to the blind man, Bartimaeus
Today’s Gospel offers us a powerful example of faith and persistence in prayer. Those around him rebuked Bartimaeus for his efforts to attract Jesus’ attention. When silenced by the crowd, however, Bartimaeus called out all the more. He is persistent and bold in his confidence that Jesus will show mercy on him and do what he asks. His persistence and great confidence that Jesus would help him reminds us of the confidence with which our children bring to us their needs. In their faith and trust we can find an example of the attitude with which we might approach God in prayer.
As a family, recall a request that has been made repeatedly by one family member to another. Talk about why the request continues to be made if the answer continues to be no. Then read together today’s Gospel, Mark 10:46-52. After reading the Gospel, pose questions such as these to your family: Why must Bartimaeus be persistent in calling out to Jesus? (Some people in the crowd are telling him to be quiet.) What does Bartimaeus do when some try to stop him? (He calls out to Jesus all the more.) When Jesus stops and calls for him, what does Jesus do and say? (He restores Bartimaeus’s sight; Jesus tells Bartimaeus his faith has saved him.) When we pray, God wants us to be so confident he will help us that we don’t permit anyone to keep us from bringing our needs to God in prayer. Invite family members to identify the things they need most from God. Pray these prayers of petition together as a family, confident that God will hear and answer your prayers. Respond to each petition, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on us.” Conclude by praying the Glory Be to the Father.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Prep
Welcome to Week 3 Prep news,
This is a fairly “quiet” week in Prep with no visitors or changes to the usual timetable. In Religion/Math this week we have been looking at celebrations which occur throughout the church year and finding the dates these occur on the calendar. Some of the celebrations identified are Easter, Christmas and St Joseph’s day. In science this week we will be investigating objects that roll and/or bounce and the properties of these.
Our writing focus for the next few weeks will be letter writing. We are also practicing using a keyboard on the IPAD and Chromebooks to login and to type texts.
Thank you to our literacy and swimming helpers!

Chaplaincy Breakfast - Term 4
In Term 4 St Joseph's Catholic School will be introducing a Chaplaincy Breakfast program each Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30am - 8:00am.
All staff, students, parents, carers and family members are welcome to join us!
Our aim is to ensure students are provided with the best opportunity to make the most of their education and develop healthy eating habits. We also aim to bring our community together through this breakfast program. Research suggests that eating breakfast in the morning sets our students up for a day of learning by maximising their behavioural outcomes in the classroom, while assisting them in engaging with learning tasks in the classroom.
We would love if you help us spread the word!
Spare Pallets and Wheels !
Mr Brown, a new teacher to our UMY space has joined us for Term 4 and would like to make Billy Carts with the students. He needs pallets that can be taken apart and wheels. Old pram wheels would be suitable.
Drop off outside the Workshop or phone the office for directions.
